Abstract

We investigate the frequency reconfigurability of a new sort of self-oscillating active integrated antennas (AIAs) implemented by metamaterial resonators. In the new scheme, the resonator in the feedback path and the radiating element in the antenna are independently controlled. Both devices are developed to optimize their quality (Q) factors for fulfilling good oscillation and radiation parameters at the same time. By simply adjusting the bias voltages at the drain and gate terminals, we further demonstrate in this paper that, the oscillation frequency of the AIA can be switched between two states, corresponding to the −1st mode order and +1st order mode of the metamaterial resonator. The experimental results will be discussed briefly.
