Abstract

MANY measures are being taken at the present time to maintain high interior quality in eggs after they are laid. These measures include clean nests, frequent gathering, proper cooling, and satisfactory temperature, humidity, and ventilation in the egg room.It is recommended that during the hot summer days experienced in Delaware that eggs be gathered three or four times a day. However many poultrymen do not realize the importance of frequent collection, and pick up the eggs only once or perhaps twice on the hot summer days. Bausman (1936) in a survey of 214 Delaware poultry farms found that on 91 of the farms the eggs were gathered only once a day, on 123 twice, and in a few cases more often. In order to actually show the value of frequent collection of eggs during the summer months it appears that definite data showing the measured deterioration in quality would .
