Abstract

An anomalous forced oscillation which occurs alongside several simultaneous self-oscillations in a molecular beam maser, based on the J = K = 1 inversion transition of 14NH 3, is shown to owe its origin to frequency mixing in the maser medium. A quantum mechanical origin of the non-linearity is proposed.
