Abstract
In this work, we propose a new approach for frequency domain full waveform inversion (FWI) based on the running summation algorithm for frequency response modeling, in which we adopt the rapid expansion method (REM) for temporal derivatives and the high order finite-difference method for spatial derivatives. For application of FWI, the REM is implemented in a time-stepping manner. When combined with the simultaneous-source technique, the computational cost of FWI is dramatically reduced. The synthetic numerical examples prove the validity of the method.
