Abstract
Frequency Domain Spectroscopy (FDS) measurement is a popular technique for assessment of insulation condition. In the method a sinusoidal voltage of variable frequency is applied on the insulation system of electrical equipment like power transformer and the phase of corresponding current response is measured at each frequency. Present work investigates use of Triangular waveform of different frequency instead of sinusoidal to assess the insulation condition. Simulation study on digital model of oil paper condenser and experimental analysis on scaled down model of a transformer insulation shows that, triangular waveform of coarse frequency interval can be used instead of using sinusoidal waveform of finer frequency interval. Thus, it can reduce the cost of the FDS measurement system in a greater way, as generation of triangular waveform is easier than pure sinusoidal waveform.
