Abstract

Natural frequencies of rotating tapered Timoshenko beam are presented for different combinations of the fixed, hinged, and free end conditions. The fixed-free, fixed-hinged, hinged-free, and hinged-hinged tapered beams are considered. Results are obtained by means of a new tapered finite beam element that accounts for the effect of shear deformation, rotary inertia, and the centrifugal stiffening due to beam rotation. Comparisons are drawn, whenever possible, with other numerical results available in the literature. The first three natural frequencies of the four different beams are tabulated for a wide range of rotational speeds and taper ratios.
