Abstract

The free flexural vibration of beams with non-uniform and random characteristics is investigated. The approximate solution is obtained by utilizing a two-variable perturbation expansion method. Spatially random variables are simulated on a digital computer. A Monte Carlo technique is employed to obtain natural frequencies and normal modes. Numerical examples are presented for a clamped-clamped beam.
