Abstract

The modal analysis of a sandwich composite plate with a honeycomb core is investigated using finite element method. The sandwich composite plate is modelled using ANSYS APDL software program. The literature is used to validate the advanced finite element models. The present sandwich plate model is discretized using four nodded serendipity elements (SHELL181). To characterize the effectiveness of sandwich composite plates with honeycomb core, several parametric investigations are carried out to determine the values of natural frequencies and mode shapes of composite sandwich plates using Block Lanczos scheme. The findings suggest that the thickness of the face sheet and the material of the core has impact on the values of natural frequencies and mode shapes of sandwich composite plates.
