Abstract

Free nucleotides, RNA and DNA all play a major role in brain development while DNA is a useful index of cell number. Biosynthesis (de novo synthesis and salvage pathway) and catabolism have been reported. Changes in the content of free nucleotides and nucleic acids as well as their metabolism are related to cellular multiplication, growth and functional activity of brain. Data obtained by biochemical and autoradiographic methods have been considered.
