Abstract

In this work the production testing techniques used for fractured reservoir identification and characterization are presented. For the sake of technical synergy a brief summary is given to open hole logs techniques used for fractures reservoir detection. The evaluation of different types of production tests conducted in these reservoirs is explained using field data examples. A special case involving a solution to the pressure behavior of a well in a reservoir in which natural fractures occur over limited area around the wellbore is presented. A new set of types curves are presented that are quite accurate for identification of fractured reservoirs, especially for the diagnosis of the flow regime associated with interporosity transient behavior which is important for reserve estimates. Also included are the regression methods applied to these systems. A combined approach between geology and reservoir engineering is needed for proper evaluation of fractured reservoir systems.
