Abstract
ABSTRACT This paper introduces a refined method for measuring the fracture toughness of aluminium alloys using notched round bar (NRB) specimens. By incorporating plasticity effects and empirical adjustments, a model based on strain energy density (SED) is proposed. The refined values were validated against experimental data for aluminium 6061-T6 and 2011-T6 alloys. The results demonstrate that the proposed method yields fracture toughness values closely matching the experimental results, underscoring its potential for standardisation and practical applications in material testing and engineering design.
