Abstract

We describe a case of fracture–dislocation of the ankle with fixed displacement of the fibula behind the tibia (Bosworth's fracture). The fracture was irreducible until the anterior tibio-fibular ligament was divided at operation. We believe this to be the first reported case of this fracture in which the ligament was intact. Bosworth first described this fracture in 1947 in a series of five patients and alerted readers to the poor outcome if the injury was missed [ [1] Bosworth D.M. Fracture dislocation of the ankle with fixed displacement of the fibula behind the tibia. J. Bone Jt. Surg. 1947; 29: 130-135 PubMed Google Scholar ].
