Abstract

Abstract This article discusses the technique for determining the maximum tensile stress in the vicinity of the contact region for a brittle material in the deformation by ball on ring test. The specimens of circular plates obtained by spark plasma sintering. Formulation of the contact axisymmetric problem of indenting the steel ball in the circular plate of FeAl freely supported along its contour is considered on the basis of the experimental data. The numerical analysis is carried out using the finite element method in the software package ANSYS 17.2 for the estimation of fracture. The nonlocal gradient failure criterion is used for an analytical evaluation of effective tensile stresses in the vicinity of the contact area.
