Abstract
Three commercial LLDPE samples with ethyl, hexyl and isobutyl branches were fractioned by cross chromatographic fractionation methods, i.e. a combination of SEC and TREF techniques. The fractions with different molecular weight distribution (MWD) and short chain branching distribution (SCB) were obtained. It was found that the frequency of SCB distribution is not simply increased or decreased with molecular weight, and the MWD and SCB distributions are very broad. Short chain branching has a greater influence on the thermal properties such as crystallization kinetics and melting behaviour than molecular weight.
