Abstract

The cohesive crack model introduced in Chap. 6 is one of the most widespread models in structural mechanics and material science when dealing with quasi-brittle materials. Generally speaking, the cohesive law is regarded as a material property. Nevertheless, experimental tests have shown that the cohesive law parameters do depend on the structural size: the tensile strength decreases with increasing sizes, whereas the fracture energy and the critical displacement increase.
