Abstract

In this article a microstrip line fed circular fractal curve loaded circular shaped patch antenna is presented for Super Wide Band (SWB) operation in THz frequency domain. Impedance matching over the entire operating frequency band is obtained by etching a circular shaped slot from the radiating patch and using a circular shaped partial ground plane. The fractal structure is suitably embedded with the radiating patch so that the lower edge frequency of operation of the proposed design is sufficiently reduced and the antenna can operate over the entire spectrum of 0.1 THz to 10 THz (with ratio impedance bandwidth of 100:1) for S11≤-10 dB. A relatively stable radiation pattern with acceptable value of gain are obtained over the entire operation band. The designed antenna has advantage of highest ratio impedance bandwidth with smallest physical dimension over previously reported SWB antenna structures for THz applications.
