Abstract

AbstractOptical domains on YBaCuO single crystals can be observed under polarized light. These domains are distinguished by different orientations of twins. The arising domain boundaries have a stepped shape and can be regarded as self‐similar in a limited range of magnification. By using different methods it is possible to characterize optical domain boundaries by fractal geometry. Fractal dimensions are obtained which are a measure of the boundary roughness.
