Abstract
This paper discusses the implementation of an embedded controller in a Field programmable gate array (FPGA) for Scientific instrumentation like Ion source applications. Embedded controller has been successfully designed and implemented with Spartan-6 FPGA (XC6SLX9) development board using Xilinx 14.2 Embedded Development Kit (EDK) tool. The softcore Processor Micro-Blaze is configured inside the FPGA using the Xilinx Platform Studio (XPS) and software application developed using Software Development Kit (SDK) tool. Designed application tested and verified the functionality with onboard USB-UART port.
