Abstract

Approximately 10-15% of all lung cancer cases arise in never-smokers. Previous studies conclude that a smoking-independent subgroup of lung adenocarcinoma with certain molecular and clinical features exists. It is well known that targetable alterations are more frequent in this group, but the nationwide population-based prevalence and spectrum of mutations and gene fusions among Swedish never-smokers have not yet been investigated. In an ongoing project within the Swedish Molecular Initiative against Lung cancer (SMIL) we characterize lung cancer in never-smokers.
