We end this issue on theatrical devising in Canada by looking to the future. The previous articles make it clear that the term “devising” is, in effect, an index, a pointer, referencing a broad and widely varied field of activities. To date, this rich, unruly diversity has been the surest sign of its robust health and its exponential growth. Yet, as I noted in my “Forewords,” our editorial responsibilities required making some choices and establishing some parameters for our own subset of interests and aspirations for this issue. Similarly, other attempts are afoot to provide structures and frameworks to facilitate dialogue among like-minded (yet often wildly different) practices and practitioners. It’s to one of the key initiatives in this effort that I turn in these last pages: the Theatre Centre’s Residence Program.
