Abstract
The cross-sections for the emission of two photons of N fluorescence differential with respect to each solid angle for the two photons in the photoexcitation of N 2 have been measured as a function of incident photon energy in the range 34–40 eV by means of a new method, the ( γ , 2 γ ) method. A resonance peak attributed to the neutral excited state(s) of N 2 appears around 36 eV in the measured cross-section curve that is free from ionization. We conclude that they are singly, doubly, or triply excited states of N 2.
