Abstract
WC–Co/Ni-base self-fluxing alloy layers were successfully formed on steel substrates using an electron beam cladding process. The WC particles were densely and homogenously dispersed within the Ni-base self-fluxing alloy without porosities. The effect of the electron beam conditions on layer formation was investigated, and the cladding layer properties were examined by hardness tests, abrasive wear tests and immersion corrosion tests. It was found that the cladding layers showed higher hardness, abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance compared with the mild steel substrate.
