Abstract

A new morphological form of PEO has been found formed from dilute aqueous solutions of the polymer when concentrated: this form represents fibrillar particles with a colloidal degree of dispersity which display the properties of crystalline particles. Thus, in the PEO-water system the liquidus-2 curve exists in the ranges 0·02< c<0·06 fractions by weight and 20°< T<80°C. These particles may play an essential role in different areas of application of aqueous PEO solutions and in methods of analysis sensitive to their presence.
