Abstract

We have investigated by means of quasielastic light scattering the formation of vesicles produced spontaneously by diluting a mixed micellar solution of glycocholate and dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine beyond the mixed micellar phase boundary. A systematic study of the dependence of the vesicle size upon the bile salt and lecithin concentration was made. The influence of temperatures close to the phospholipid transition temperature was investigated and the results were analyzed using a theoretical model for the formation and equilibrium properties of vesicles.
