Abstract
2D and 3D problems of the formation of intense relativistic charged-particle beams are discussed for different geometrical configurations. Both the exact solutions in the closed form and the results of the paraxial approximation are investigated. The model of elliptic beams is analyzed, and the conclusion is drawn that classical conceptions do not correspond to practical tasks of the formation and transport of these objects.
