Abstract

The purpose of the study was to study the ideas of the first-year students and the content of the concept of “physical culture” in the context of health care. 150 first-year students took part in the study. At the first stage they were asked to give their understanding of the terms “physical culture” and “health”, and at the second stage the students were offered theoretical classes. During the lessons, students developed competencies related to independent health assessment skills, as well as the ability to choose appropriate types of workload. During the analysis of the students’ works, their ideas about health and ways to preserve it were revealed. The results of the study show the role of evaluating “incoming” knowledge and ideas for the selection of content and methods of working with students within academic disciplines.
