Abstract

Ultrafine Au particles dispersed composite was prepared by using Au and an oligomeric amide matrix. Morphology of the composite was investigated using TEM, SEM and AFM. The oligomeric amide was prepared by the degradation of nylon-11. A thin gold colored layer containing many ultrafine Au particles was formed on the matrix by vapor deposition of Au. After heating, the Au particles dispersed into the matrix. Dispersed particles significantly affected the surface morphology of the matrix. AFM images of both the oligomeric amide and the Au deposited one, however, were not clear. They were different from that of the melt-pressed nylon-11. Adsorbed water and softness of the oligomeric amide affected the AFM resolution. The oligomeric amide was supposed to hold the vapor-deposited Au as the ultrafine particle on/in the matrix due to its softening and the interaction with the gold particles.
