Abstract

AbstractIn the system Nb2O5Al2O3, solid solutions of metastable δ‐Nb2O5 (hexagonal) are formed up to 50 mol% Al2O3 from amorphous materials prepared by the simultaneous hydrolysis of niobium and aluminium alkoxides. The values of the lattice parameter a are relatively constant regardless of composition, while parameter c decreases linearly with increasing Al2O3 content. The δ‐ to γ‐Nb2O5 (orthorhombic) transformation occurs at ≈︁ 640°C to ≈︁ 700°C. The solid solution containing 50 mol% Al2O3 transforms to monoclinic NbAlO4 at 800° to 860°C.
