Abstract
The reaction of Cp(CO) 2 FeNa with (CH 3 SO 2 OCH 2 ) 3 CH provided [Cp(CO) 2 FeCH 2 ] 3 CH (3) in 50% yield. Thermal decomposition of compound 3 occurred rapidly in solution at 25 o C and produced approximately equimolar amounts of [Cp(CO) 2 Fe] 2 and dicarbonyl (cyclopentadienyl) (cyclopropylmethtyl) iron. These products presumably result from decarbonylation of compound 3, formation of carbonyl-bridged intermediate, and reductive elimination. The reaction of compound 3 with Ph 3 C + PF 6 − yielded the Cp(CO) 2 Fe + complex of Cp(CO) 2 FeCH 2 CH 2 CH=CH 2
