Abstract
Creating a campus full of diverse learners, including adults from low socioeconomic backgrounds, can lead to a richer learning experience for all students. Looking outside the box to enroll adult students may mean partnering with unconventional learning organizations in your community. The Free Minds Project, a nonprofit based in Austin, Texas, provides adult learners with one free year of college courses and six credit units, while ensuring a focus on the humanities. Vivé Griffith, the director of the Free Minds Project, shared insights about what makes her program a success, how to help your adult students on the path to learning and retain them through complicated lives, and what strategies will engage your adult learners.
