Forestry Transition of the Irkutsk Region to Sustainable Forest Management Principles

Abstract

The implementation of the principles of sustainable forest management in Russia is an urgent task for the development of the country's forest complex due a number of problems that hinder its development. An assessment of the level of the forest management system in forest regions in terms of implementing the principles of sustainable forest management will identify the current level of sustainability and develop directions to improve forest management mechanism. We analyzed the existing system of forest management in the Irkutsk region to compare them with the results in other territories. The study proposed to introduce a point system, the maximum value of each indicator in which will be 1.0. The analysis of the existing system of forest management in the Irkutsk region revealed a low level of its sustainability. As a result, we developed recommendations for further implementation of the principles of sustainable forest management and forest management in the Irkutsk region.
