Abstract
Summary This paper deals with the unsuspected foreign body in the œsophagus and how it may produce prolonged dysphagia or pass through the œsophageal wall and be hidden in the prevertebral space. The importance of anterior and lateral straight X-ray after the barium swallow is emphasised. Cases are described of impaction by a soft bolus and of impaction of a small foreign body at a malignant stricture.
