Abstract

Two hundred seventy cases of stone manipulation are reviewed. Manipulation was successful in 68 per cent and 9 per cent had to have open ureterolithotomy. There were no serious complications. An aggressive approach to the treatment of lower ureteral calculi is recommended. Manipulation is indicated if the patient is incapacitated. If certain rules are followed, the risk of complications should be minimal.
