Abstract

The forced vibrations of preloaded elastic beams interconnected by deformable joints are studied. Attention is focused on vibrations in the microdynamic regime in which the beam displacements are in the micron range. First, various factors which could affect the microdynamic behavior of the beams are examined. Then mathematical models for typical joints involving contact deformations are derived from the Hertzian contact theory. The integration of the derived joint models with those for preloaded elastic beams is discussed. Their dynamic behavior is studied analytically and numerically by means of computer simulation.
