Abstract
Like other countries in the region, the relationship between forced migration and security has emerged as one of the most challenging and pressing migration-related policy concerns in Vietnam. While knowledge about internal and international migrations continues to grow in the country, not much is known about forced migration in Vietnam. This paper attempts to provide historical and contemporary perspectives on forced migration in Vietnam. It reviews different forms of forced migration since the transition from war to peace 30 years ago. Forced migration has confronted Vietnam during the post-war and reform periods. In terms of policies, political will and economic resources are crucial in responding to forced migration.
