Abstract

This paper reveals the image of a potter‘s road and a potter in Ukrainian bylychky - folkloric texts - of the 19th – 20th centuries. Typical characteristics of such mystical stories are analyzed and selected on a base of folkloric field materials by famous Ukrainian scholars, folklorists, and ethnographers. The author focuses on determing the regional peculiarities of the bylychky trying to explain the local spread of motifs and image of a potter, who often deals with demonic creatures. Texts of bylychky from Ukraine neighboring states Poland and Belarus are used for comparison purpose.
