Abstract

Summary Six elderly hospital patients found to have folate deficiency without anaemia were investigated for evidence of intestinal malabsorption. Each had a folic acid absorption test using tritiated folic acid and a jejunal biopsy. Five had faecal fat estimations. Folic acid was absorbed normally in each case and no jejunal abnormalities were found.
