Abstract

Fluorescence spectroscopy is a highly sensitive technique with many applications in the study of membranes, as shown in Table 1. Several reviews have recently describing uses of the technique in several specialized areas of membrane research [1–5]. The object of this chapter is to describe the basic theory of fluorescence spectroscopy and present a quantitative description of some of the applications listed in Table 1.
