Abstract

Isothermal high-pressure (gas + liquid) phase equilibria were determined for the three mixtures: (methanol + hydrogen or methane or ethane). The measurements were performed at temperatures of 298.15, 348.15, 398.15, 448.15, and 498.15 K. Two additional isotherms were determined for (hydrogen + ethanol) at temperatures of 503.15 and 508.15 K and at pressures up to the critical. The densities of the liquid phase and in some cases for the gas phase as well are quoted. Moreover, values of ( p, T, x) at the critical state of the three binary mixtures were measured. Additionally, the influence of small amounts of water on the critical state of ethanol was determined. Three different methods were adopted for the measurements: (a), two high-pressure optical cells for moderate to high ethanol mole fractions; (b), g.c. determination of composition at low ethanol mole fractions; and (c), the boiling curve for (ethane + ethanol) at 298.15 K measured with closely spaced measuring points by a static method.
