Abstract

The paper presents the results of an experimental and analytical investigation of the forced oscillations of a circular cylinder in uniform flow. The transverse force has been decomposed into two components and the appropriate force-transfer coefficients have been determined experimentally through the use of a Fourier averaging techinique. The results were then incorporated into the equation of motion to predict the dynamic responsee of elastically-mounted cylinders. The numerical predictions were found to be in good agreement with those obtained experimentally.
