Abstract

Experimental data [Clay et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 31, 1572 (1959); M. V. Brown and J. Ricard, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 31, 1572 (1959)] suggest that the fluctuations of received signals are due to the reflection from the sea surface. These data are compared with calculations based on the theory of C. Eckart [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 25, 566–570 (1953)]. (This work was supported by the Office of Naval Research.)
