Abstract

A theoretical investigation of active-passive mode-locked lasers is presented. The main conclusion is that the intrinsic instability of a passively mode-locked laser due to the primordial noise fluctuation can be minimized by introducing an active modulator into the resonant cavity. Good agreement between computer simulation and experimental results reported previously is obtained.
