Abstract

AbstractIntermediate white, ladino white, strawberry, and persian clovers were grown in the greenhouse during a 4‐month period and subjected to flooding 3 days in 10, 6 days in 10, and continuously. In another experiment, three varieties of ladino white and two varieties of intermediate white clover were compared when flooded 6 days in 10 during a 3‐month period.Ladino clover varieties were more tolerant of poor drainage than intermediate white clover varieties. Persian, strawberry, and ladino white clover herbage growth responses were similar. Root growth of persian and strawberry clovers was less affected by flooding than that of ladino. Herbage N was reduced by flooding in intermediate white and only slightly reduced in ladino, persian, and strawberry clovers. Manganese accumulation in the herbage was not related to flooding tolerance of the clover species.
