Abstract

Data from a 6-yr study (1981-86) suggest that seasonal emergence of the apple maggot, Rhagoletis pomonella (Walsh), as determined by Pherocon AM traps, varied from year to year and from host to host. The apple populations generally emerged slightly earlier and peaked 1-2 wk before the hawthorn populations. No major differences were found in fly activity patterns between the Willamette Valley and the southern Oregon coast. The earliest fly catches were noticed on 28 June 1983 and the latest fly on 24 October 1984. Peak fly catches were generally noticed between mid-August to early September. Oviposition and hatching of larvae closely followed adult emergence.
