In 2008, Liedtke et al2 suggested that response (specifically failure to achieve a pathologic complete response) after preoperative therapy could identify those patients with poor prognosis triple-negative disease who would have worse long-term outcomes. The impact of these studies today is that we can offer preoperative therapy where it is needed knowing it is safe and effective, and we can use this setting to help accelerate the pace of research.AUTHOR'S DISCLOSURES OF POTENTIAL CONFLICTS OF INTERESTFlashback Foreword: Preoperative Therapy for Operable Breast Cancer and Clinical Features of Triple-Negative Breast CancerThe following represents disclosure information provided by the author of this manuscript.
