Abstract

Abstract Hydrogen flame ionization detection was invented more than 25 years ago in Australia by McWilliam and Dewar.1–3 Independently, the same detection method was investigated by Harley and Nell and Pretorius4,5 in South Africa. It is interesting that during 1958 two articles entitled “A Flame Ionization Detector for Gas Chromatography” were reported in Nature by these authors.
