Abstract
The first of two units of a hazardous waste incineration plant in Germany was equipped with a fixed bed activated coke filter in 1991. The first part of the paper covers the results obtained during a period of extensive emissions testing in Fall 1992. Detailed experimental results for toxic trace metals, organics and other pollutants are reviewed. In the second part of the paper the concept for retrofitting the second unit of the Herten plant with an activated coke filter combined with a low temperature SCR-DeNO x plant is introduced. In conclusion an outlook toward a coming state of the art flue gas cleaning system is presented.
