Five poems by Wang Jiaxin

Abstract

Wang Jiaxin emerged in the 1980s as one of the most prominent post-Misty poets while serving as editor of Shikan (Poetry Monthly) from 1985 to 1990. In addition to publishing his own collections of poetry and literary criticism as well as editing major anthologies of modern and contemporary Chinese poetry, he has worked extensively to introduce readers of Chinese to the work of Paul Celan and William Butler Yeats. His own poems have been translated into a number of European and Asian languages. His translation of Paul Celan's poetry and prose, done in collaboration with Rui Hu was published in 2002. Xuede kuandai (The Cordiality of Snow), his most recent collection of prose and criticism, appeared in 2010. He is currently a professor at Renmin University's School of Literary Studies.
