Abstract

Starting from the understanding that no mode of subjective differentiation - whether it be along the lines of gender, 'race', class, ethnicity, or sexuality - takes ultimate precedence over any of the others, this essay explicitly focuses on sexuality, in order to pursue the theoretical potential of Freudian psychoanalysis for a radical lesbian critique in cultural praxis. Re-reading Freud through Laplanche and Pontalis, the essay explores the notion of fantasy in order to suggest how non-normative heterosexual scenarios in cultural production may play a critical role in enabling processes of embodied lesbian subjectivity.
