Abstract

Lamprocapnos spectabilis (L.) Fukuhara (commonly Bleeding heart) is a popular cultivated plant for landscape purposes in China. In July 2017, irregularly shaped white mycelia mats covering both sides of the leaves were observed on L. spectabilis plants growing in Beijing Botanical Garden (40 °N; 116.2 °E), China. The disease incidence was estimated at 60 to 80%. Microscopic observations revealed hyphae that were flexuous, straight and septate. Hyphal appressoria were slightly nipple-shaped or lobed, solitary. Conidiophores were erect, 82.9 to 158.0 (202.7) × 6.0 to 9.5 µm. Foot-cells were cylindrical, straight to often curved-sinuous, 31.6 to 88.0 × 5.3 to 8.2 µm, followed by 1 to 3 (4) shorter cells. Conidia were single and without distinct fibrosin bodies, ellipsoid-ovoid or cylindrical, 29.5 to 54.9 × 13.1 to 20.4 µm with a length/width ratio of mostly 1.8 to 3.5. Germ tubes were produced at the perihilar position of conidia. The teleomorph stages of the fungus were not found. The morphological charact...
